Populate the CA ARCserve Backup Database Using the
ARCserve VMware Configuration Tool
The ARCserve VMware Configuration Tool is a utility that populates the CA
ARCserve Backup database with the information about the VMs on your ESX
Server. This tool integrates with a command-line utility called
ca_vcbpopulatedb, which runs in the background, to populate the ARCserve
database with information about the VMs. The configuration tool lets you
populate the CA ARCserve Backup database with information about the
following:
■ VCB backup proxy names
■ ESX Server or VirtualCenter Server names
■
VM Host names
■ Volume names contained within the VMs on Windows systems
After you install the agent, you must populate the CA ARCserve Backup
database with the information about your VM systems. To accomplish this, you
must execute the ARCserve VMware Configuration Tool on the backup proxy
system.
Note: If you do not perform this task, you will not be able to browse the VMs
in your environment using the Backup Manager.

To populate the CA ARCserve Backup database using the ARCserve VMware
Configuration Tool
1. Ensure that the VMs in the ESX Server systems are in a running state.
Note: If the VMs are not in a running state, the ARCserve VMware
Configuration Tool will not populate the CA ARCserve Backup database
with data, and you will not be able to accurately browse and back up the
VMs in the ESX Server systems.
