NAT Traversal

In order to maintain connection with the remote party, the NAT traversal can be enabled
on the IP phone. NAT traversal is a general term for techniques that establish and
maintain IP connections traversing NAT gateways. The NAT traversal technique requires
assistance from a STUN server.

STUN (Simple Traversal of UDP over NATs)

STUN is a standardized set of methods, including a network protocol, used in NAT
traversal for applications of real-time voice, video, messaging, and other interactive IP
communications. The STUN protocol allows applications operating behind a NAT to
discover the presence of the network address translator, and to obtain the mapped
(public) IP address and port number that the NAT has allocated for the UDP connections
to remote parties. The protocol requires assistance from a third-party network server
(STUN server) located on the opposing (public) side of the NAT.
The NAT traversal and STUN server are configurable on a per-account basis.
Procedure
NAT traversal and STUN server can be configured using the configuration files or locally.

To configure the NAT traversal and STUN server via web user interface:

1. Click on Account.
2. Select the desired account from the pull-down list of Account.
3. Select STUN from the pull-down list of NAT Traversal.
4. Enter the IP address or the domain name in the STUN Server field.
5. Click Confirm to save the change.
