When the phone is first plugged in, a software download from a TFTP server is initiated. This gives the phone the functionality of an Avaya IP Telephone.

    Powering the 4600 IP Telephone There are two options for powering the 4602/4602SW/4606/4610SW/4612/4620/4620SW/4624/ 4630SW IP Telephones, and only one way to power the 4630 IP Telephone. All 4600 Series IP Telephones can be locally powered with a Telephone Power Module (DC power jack), available separately.
  • Page 19 2. Plug one end of the first Category 5 modular line cord into the Ethernet jack of the PC and the other end into the secondary Ethernet jack on the 4600 Series IP Telephone. The 4602SW has PC and LAN jacks reversed from this picture. Ensure you make the right connections to the right equipment, as noted by the icons on the telephone jacks.

There is no reason currently known to downgrade any Avaya IP Telephone except to install a 4612 or a 4624 IP Telephone on a DEFINITY switch with a release prior to R9.5. We strongly recommend that you upgrade DEFINITY to the latest release rather than take the extreme steps in the following information.
