Inflatable Curtain (IC)

Properties
The inflatable curtain is a supplement to the
SIPS system. It is concealed in the headlining
along both sides of the roof and protects
both front and rear seat passengers. The
inflatable curtain is activated by the SIPS
collision sensors if the car is hit from the side.
When deployed, the inflatable curtain
inflates. The inflatable curtain helps to
prevent the driver and passengers from
striking their heads on the inside of the car
during a collision.
WARNING!
The inflatable curtain is a supplement to
the seatbelts.
Always use a seatbelt.
In the Volvo XC90, the inflatable curtains
have been developed to protect occupants in
the event of overturning. The inflatable curtain
also covers those travelling in the third row of
seats in the variant that seats seven.
WARNING!
• Never hang or fasten anything on the
roof handles. The hook is only intended
for light outer garments (not for hard
objects such as umbrellas).
• Do not screw or fit anything to the
headlining, door pillars or side panels.
This could compromise the intended
protection. Only use Volvo genuine parts
that are approved for placement in these
areas.
