Failure of Battery Backup Unit

If the battery backup unit is defected, the SERVICE LED on the disk array unit lights orange. In
addition, the FAULT LED on the power supply corresponding to the defected battery backup unit, PS0
for BBU0 or PS1 for BBU1, lights orange. The defected battery backup unit may be replaced with the
power supply of the disk array unit remaining ON.
Prepare the replacement battery backup unit before you start the replacement
procedure.
The power supplies contain the fans for cooling the disk array unit, so cooling is
stopped during replacement of the battery backup unit. In order to minimize the
cooling stopped time, familiarize yourself with the power supply replacement
procedure to quickly remove each power supply and install it back into the disk array
unit.
<Replacement procedure>
1. Remove the power supply containing the defective battery backup unit, and remove the
battery backup unit. (See 8.5 Failure of Power Supply.)
2. Install the replacement battery backup unit in the power supply, and install the power supply
in the disk array unit. (See 8.5 Failure of Power Supply.)
If a failure occurs while optional batteries are installed, it cannot be determined whether
the standard battery backup unit or optional battery backup unit has failed. When a
battery backup unit failure is detected, replace the standard battery backup unit, and
install the power supply containing the new battery backup unit in the disk array unit. If a
battery backup unit failure is detected again after the power is turned on, perform the
<Replacement procedure> above to replace the other optional battery, and reinstall the
battery backup unit to the original position. (Reinstall the standard battery backup unit to
the original position, and replace the defective optional battery.)
