2.
Among the Continuous Access Journal Z restore journals, the journal data created before the
split time is restored to Continuous Access Journal Z S-VOLs (Business Copy Z S-VOLs).
3.
When Continuous Access Journal Z detects the journal data from the restore journal that has
the time stamp later than the split time, restore operations are suspended. After that, split
operations are executed on Business Copy Z pairs that are in conjunction with Continuous
Access Journal Z S-VOL.
4.
After Business Copy Z has completed the split operations, Continuous Access Journal Z resumes
the suspended restore operation of the restore journal.
CAUTION:
When using the At Time Split function when combining Continuous Access Journal
Z with Business Copy Z, observe the following cautions:
Configure Business Copy Z pairs on all Continuous Access Journal Z S-VOLs. All Business
Copy Z pairs that are in conjunction with Continuous Access Journal Z S-VOLs must be
registered in the same Business Copy Z consistency group. Consistent backup operations
cannot be performed if Business Copy Z pairs are set to a portion of Continuous Access Journal
Z pairs or Business Copy Z pairs that are in conjunction with Continuous Access Journal Z
S-VOLs are registered to separate Business Copy Z consistency groups. In addition, if multiple
journal groups are registered in one Business Copy Z consistency group, consistent backup
operations cannot be performed on the Business Copy Z
that the multiple journal groups are registered in one Business Copy Z consistency group.
When you execute split operation, the Continuous Access Journal Z pair status must be duplex,
and the Business Copy Z pair status must be either duplex or pending. If the status of the
Continuous Access Journal Z pair or the Business Copy Z pair is suspended due to a failure,
the journal data which was created before the split time may not be restored to the Business
Copy Z T-VOL after the split operation has been completed. The split time and the actual
starting time of the split operation are not necessarily the same. The starting time of the split
operation will delay depending on the amount of journal data stored in the journal volume at
the split time. For example, if journal data that needs one hour to be completely restored is
stored at the split time, the starting time of the split operation will delay for one hour.
Even if the specified timeout period has passed from the split time, journal data with the time
stamp later than the split time may not be detected due to some reason such as a lot of journal
data stored in the journal volume. If the journal data with such a time stamp cannot be detected,
the split operation of the Business Copy Z pair executes after the specified timeout period.
Because the time out value is variable, set the value according to your environment. The default
time out value is 6 hours. For details on how to specify a timeout value, see the manual of
Business Continuity Manager.
