Business Continuity Manager allows you to set the starting time of the backup copy to journals.
In the above configuration, if you set the starting time of the backup copy, the write operations
to the P-VOL up to that time are backed up to the S-VOL. If the above configuration is used in
multiple journal volumes in multiple storage systems, you can set the same starting time of the
backup copy to all the journals. If you do this, the P-VOLs are backed up across the multiple
disk systems at the same time.
A Continuous Access Journal Z secondary volume shared with the Business Copy Z primary
volume is illustrated below. With this configuration, multiple backup copies of the Continuous
Access Journal Z primary volume can be made on the remote system.
You can specify a split time for Business Copy Z pairs on the secondary system. See "Using
At-Time Split function when combining Continuous Access Journal Z with Business Copy Z"
(page 144) for more information.
CAUTION: When you share a Continuous Access Journal Z S-VOL with a Business Copy Z
P-VOL as shown in the following figure, the write operation to the Continuous Access Journal
Z P-VOL takes time. Especially, when the Business Copy Z pair is in the V-Split status, the write
operation to the Continuous Access Journal Z P-VOL may take extra time depending on the
time needed for copying the Business Copy Z pair.
In addition, if the journal volume size is small, the Continuous Access Journal Z pair may be
suspended by failure because of the shortage of the capacity of its journal volume.

A Continuous Access Journal Z primary volume and an secondary volume shared with Business
Copy Z primary volumes is illustrated below. This configuration provides multiple copies of
the primary volume at the local and remote sites.
