7 Troubleshooting
This chapter provides information and instructions for troubleshooting the Business Copy Z system.
General troubleshooting
The following table provides general troubleshooting information for Business Copy Z pairs.
Table 1 1 General troubleshooting
Error
Remote Web Console hangs, or Business
Copy Z operations do not function
properly.
The volume pairs are not displaying
correctly.
A Business Copy Z error message is
displayed on Remote Web Console during
an operation.
There is a pinned track on a Business
Copy Z volume.
Only the Exit and Refresh menus are
effective when accessing the SVP from
Remote Web Console.
Service Information Messages (SIMs)
The P9500 generates a service information message (SIM) to notify users of events that have
occurred in the storage system. SIMs can be generated by the system's channel and storage path
microprocessors or the service processor (SVP). The SVP reports all SIMs related to Business Copy
Z operations. The SIMs reported to the zSeries and S/390 host are logged in the SYS1.LOGREC
dataset of the host operating system.
SIMs are classified according to the following severities: service, moderate, serious, or acute. The
larger the SIM number, the more important the message.
All SIMs are recorded on the P9500 SVP and displayed in the Remote Web Console Status window.
The following figure shows a typical 32 byte SIM from the P9500. SIMs are displayed on the host
console by reference code (RC) and severity. The six digit RC (composed of bytes 22, 23, and
13) identifies the possible error and determines the severity. The SIM type (byte 28) indicates the
component which experienced the error.

Corrective action
Make sure all Business Copy Z requirements and restrictions are met.
Make sure the storage system is powered on and fully functional.
Check all input values and parameters to make sure that you entered
the correct information on the Business Copy Z windows (such as S-VOL
and T-VOL IDs).
Make sure the correct volumes are selected.
Select the failed volume in the Preview List on the Pair Operation window,
right-click to display the menu, and then click Error Detail. See HP
StorageWorks P9000 Remote Web Console Messages for the list of error
codes and corrective actions.
If a pinned track occurs on a Business Copy Z or T-VOL, the system will
suspend the pair. Contact your HP representative for assistance in recovering
pinned tracks.
The SVP might not be ready, or another user is performing write processing.
Wait and then refresh the window.
