Pair operations during system, device maintenance

This section provides recommendations for pair operations when maintenance on the P9500 system
and related devices are performed.

When maintaining physical and logical devices

Review the following to check whether pairs and pair operations are affected when maintenance
is performed on physical and logical devices.
If P9500 cache maintenance is performed during a period of high I/O usage, one or more
pairs may suspend. Reduce the I/O load before performing cache maintenance.
Physical devices that contain LDEVs used by Business Copy Z can be maintained independently
of pair operations and pair status. Maintenance does not affect Business Copy Z.
If a physical device failure occurs, pair status is not affected because of the RAID architecture.
If a physical device failure requires the system to utilize dynamic sparing or automatic correction
copy, pair status is not affected.
If an LDEV failure occurs, the system suspends the pair.
Maintenance is restricted for LDEVs used by a pair that is in the following statuses: Pending,
Duplex, Split, SP-Pend, V Split, Resync or Resync R.
Maintenance is also restricted for LDEVs in which the Reserve attribute is set for a volume.
To maintain these LDEVs, suspend or delete the pair, and/or remove the T-VOL reserve attribute.

When switching power off

During pair operations, when you switch off the power-supply for the system, ensure the following:
Complete processing for an At-Time Split operation before switching off the power-supply.
If this is not done and the status of some of the pairs in the consistency group is changed but
not others, the At-Time Split processing may not resume when you power-on the power supply.
The status of some pairs may remain unchanged.
