Maintaining the Switch

Field-Replaceable Units (FRUs)

Performing Diagnostic Tests

66
The HP StorageWorks Core Switch 2/64 does not require any regular
physical maintenance and is designed to minimize the chance of failure,
including field-replaceable units (FRUs) and diagnostic tests.
For information on obtaining license keys or the most current technical
support information about this product, visit the HP Web site at
http://www.hp.com/support/coreswitch264
The power supplies, port cards, CP cards, and blower assemblies can all be
replaced in the field without the use of special tools. The switch can
continue operating during most replacements.
Fabric Watch alarms can be configured for each FRU. For more
information, refer to the hp StorageWorks fabric watch user's guide.
Diagnostic tests are provided to help troubleshoot the hardware and the
firmware. The diagnostic tests provided on the switch include tests of
internal connections and circuitry, and SFPs and fiber optic cables in use.
The tests are implemented by command, either through a telnet session or
through a terminal set up for a serial connection to the switch. Some tests
require the ports to be connected to each other by external cables, to allow
diagnostics to verify the serializer/deserializer interface and to test the
attached SFP and cable.
Run all diagnostic tests at link speeds of 1 Gbps and 2 Gbps. For
information about diagnostic tests and how to run them, refer to the hp
StorageWorks diagnostic and system error message reference.
