Accessing Redundant ROM Using the Server Blade Maintenance Switch
If the system does not boot, you may access the redundant ROM manually using the
server blade maintenance switch (SW1). To access the redundant ROM using SW1:
1. Power down the server blade. See the "Powering Down a Server Blade" section
in Chapter 3, "Installing and Cabling the System."
2. Remove the server blade from the enclosure. See the "Removing a Server Blade"
section in Chapter 3, "Installing and Cabling the System."
3. Set server blade maintenance switches (SW1) 1 and 4 to on. For the location of
these switches, see Appendix E, "LEDs and Switches."
4. Insert the server blade back in the server blade bay. After the system powers on,
it repeatedly emits two long beeps.
5. Power down the server blade again. If necessary, perform a forced shutdown by
pressing the power button for 4 seconds.
6. Remove the server blade from the enclosure again.
7. Set the server blade maintenance switches (SW1) 1 and 4 back to the default
position (off).
8. Insert the server blade back into the server blade bay.
9. Power up the server blade.
If the system still does not boot, see Appendix D, "Troubleshooting."

Flashing the Server Blade ROM

When you flash the server blade ROM, ROMPaq writes over the older ROM and
saves the current ROM as a backup, enabling you to switch easily to the backup
ROM version. This feature protects the previous ROM version, even if you
experience a power failure while flashing the ROM.
Two methods are available for flashing the ROM:
Upgrading the server blade ROM using ROMPaq Utility
Remote ROM flash
