Upgrade Guide
Performing the upgrade from the BlackBerry Professional
Software to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on the

existing host computer

Prerequisites: Upgrading from the BlackBerry Professional Software to
the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on the existing host computer
Perform the following actions:
Obtain the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software files.
Purchase the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Trade-Up Key.
Verify that your organization meets the prerequisites for installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.
Back up the BlackBerry® Professional Software registry settings and log files.
Back up the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
If you plan to move the existing BlackBerry Configuration Database to a different computer or to a new Microsoft® SQL
Server®, perform the move before you begin the upgrade process.
Verify that you have the following information available:
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Trade-Up Key
name of the computer that currently hosts the BlackBerry Professional Software
name of the account that you use to administer the BlackBerry Professional Software
existing CAL key, SRP authentication key, and SRP host name
name of the BlackBerry Configuration Database
name of the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Configuration Database

Stop the BlackBerry Professional Software services

You stop the BlackBerry® Professional Software services so that running services do not interfere with the upgrade process.
You must stop the BlackBerry Professional Software services before you start the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server services.
1.
Log in to the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Professional Software using an administrative account with the
appropriate database permissions.
2.
On the taskbar, click Administrative Tools > Services.
3.
In the Windows® Services, stop the BlackBerry Professional Software services.
