Service Line Requirements

All utility service lines should be ¼ inch O.D., brass, copper, or stainless steel, and
equipped with an easily accessible shut-off valve. The service valves are rated for
operation at 40 PSI (275 kPa). If the service line pressure exceeds this, it must be
equipped with a pressure regulator to reduce the line pressure.
Note: The use of flammable gases or solvents should be avoided in the clean bench.
Open flame in the clean bench will disrupt the laminar airflow and may damage the
HEPA filter. Flammable gases or solvents may reach explosive concentrations in the
clean bench. If you feel that the procedure requires the use of an open flame or
flammable materials, contact your institution's safety office.
Note: The use of air or gases under high pressure should be avoided as they may
significantly disrupt the airflow patterns in the clean bench.
