How can I determine if non-NEC PC network or modem cards will work
with NEC PC card drivers?
If the PC card was not supplied by NEC, check for the following:
T
If it is a modem card, the NEC Versa beeps twice when you insert the card, letting
you know that it works.
T
If it's a network card (LAN, Ethernet), an NEC PC card is the only one that works di-
rectly. The CECFG.EXE file enables the beep tones. This file is on the diskette that
comes with the NEC network card. Windows 95 will automatically recognize your
card or prompt you for drivers.
Other cards can be made to work but require extensive PC card and network knowledge.
See the user's guide that comes with the network card.
NEC cannot comment on the suitability of non-NEC PC cards. NEC portable computers
are preloaded with SystemSoft's CardWizard software. Refer to the manual that came
with any non-NEC PC card for information on the drivers it provides.
Can I run two of the same type cards simultaneously?
Yes, Windows 95 configures each card. If they are both modems, configure each
for a different port and use different available interrupts under the ports icon in the Win-
dows control panel or from Device Manager in Windows 95.
Why do certain PC cards cause my battery life to drop noticeably?
Certain hard disk cards and wireless radio cards consume more power than oth-
ers and can impact battery life. When not using any PC card, pop it part of the way out
of the slot to save power.
