Replacing the mainboard
Make sure the filament is removed, the Ultimaker is turned off and the power supply is disconnected before you start the replacement.
Tip: All orientations are noted as seen from the front of the printer.
Note: These instructions are the same for the Ultimaker 2, Ultimaker 2 Extended and Ultimaker 2 Go, as well as the Ultimaker 2+ and Ultimaker 2 Extended+. Small differences are explained for the specific steps.

Ultimaker 2: Some older models of the Ultimaker 2 have covers that are only attached with a single M3x10 bolt.
- Remove the left motor cover
- Remove the two M3x10 bolts that hold the cover in place. There is one in the middle under the motor of the left panel and one under the feeder in the back panel.

Ultimaker 2Go: The motor covers of the Ultimaker 2Go are plastic and simply click in and out of the printer. They are not attached with bolts. To remove the left motor cover on the Ultimaker 2Go, grab the top of the cover and pull forwards and to the left. This will dislodge the tabs of the cover from the notches in the frame. - Pull the cover away from the bottom panel and towards the front of the printer.
![]()
- Remove the ferrite core from the Y motor and feeder motor wires.
Note: This process is different for several printers.
Ultimaker 2Go: The mainboard of the Ultimaker 2Go is upside down compared to the other printers in the complete Ultimaker 2 family. It does not have to be flipped, since the side with the connectors is already facing towards you.

For internal use only
- Loosen the Ultimainboard from the bottom panel
- Remove the four M3x20 bolts that secure the Ultimainboard to the bottom panel from the inside of the printer.
- Take the four spacers and put them aside.
- Remove all connections from the Ultimainboard
- Go around the board counterclockwise.
- Remove the Fan PWM
![]()
- Carefully pull the Ultimainboard away from the bottom panel, but mind the On/Off button, USB port and power connector, which go through the back panel.
Tip: The spacers are small and easily get lost. Remove the bolts one by one, and hold the spacer just before the bolt comes out completely.

- Remove the LED PWM
![]()
- Remove the X limit switch cable (blue)
- Remove the Y limit switch cable (red)
- Remove the Z limit switch cable (black)
![]()
- Remove the Double flatwire cable
Tip: Mark the cable which is connected to 'EXP1'. When reconnecting the cables, this makes it easier to put the cables in the corresponding connectors without having to remove the Ulticontroller cover.flipped, since the side with the connectors is already facing towards you.

For internal use only - Remove the PT100B sensor cable
![]()
- Remove the Feeder motor cable

- Remove the Z motor cable
- Remove the Y motor cable
- Remove the X motor cable
![]()
- Flip the Ultimainboard around
- This makes it easier to remove certain other connections.
- Remove the Hot end fan cable
![]()
Tip: To remove the heater wires it is easier to first slide the whole connector from the mainboard. The connector can be pulled straight towards you. Use a flathead screwdriver to press on the orange parts, which releases the wires.

For internal use only - Remove the Heater Cartridge cable
![]()
- When the Ultimainboard is completely loose, lastly take the two jumpers from 'SAFETY1' and 'SAFETY2'.
![]()
- Remove the Bed heater wires cables
![]()
Re-assembly
- Installing a new Ultimainboard
- Take a new Ultimainboard
- Place the two jumpers from the old board on 'SAFETY1' and 'SAFETY2'. The orientation of the jumpers does not matter, but make sure the jumpers are securely connected.
![]()
- Connect the blue-orange cable of the 5V hot end fan to the connector on the middle of the board.
![]()
For internal use only
- Proceed to reconnect all cables to the Ultimainboard
- To ensure the best cable management, follow this specific order.
- Connect the bed heater wires to the green terminal marked 'BED'. Push down on the orange parts with a flat head screwdriver, then fully insert the wires. Let the orange part come up and gently pull on each wires after connecting it, to make sure it is secure.
![]()
Note: This process is different for several printers.
Ultimaker 2 Go: The Ultimaker 2 Go does not have a heated bed, so, obviously, also no heater wires. - Connect the heater cartridge wires to the green terminal marked 'HEATER1'. Push down on the orange parts with a flat head screwdriver, then fully insert the wires. Let the orange part come up and gently pull on each wires after connecting it, to make sure it is secure.

- Flip the Ultimainboard around
- This puts the Ultimainboard in the correct orientation and makes it easier to connect the other cables.
- Connect the green-yellow cable of the model cooling fans to 'FAN PWM'.
![]()
- Connect the PT100 sensor to 'TEMP1' and the heated bed sensor cable to 'TEMP3'.
Note: This process is different for several printers.
Ultimaker 2/2 Extended/2 Go: The PT100 is a silver cable with three thin wires at the end, two red and one white.
Ultimaker 2+/2 Extended+: The PT100 is a white cable with two wires.
Ultimaker 2 Go: The Ultimaker 2 Go does not have a heated bed, so, obviously, also no temperature sensor for the bed.

- Find the cable of the X motor. This is the longest cable coming from the right, from behind the Z motor. Connect it to 'X'.
![]()
- Connect the Z motor to 'Z'.
![]()
- Insert the four M3x25 bolts through the four slots in the bottom panel, from the inside of the printer.
![]()
For internal use only - Take the cable of the Y motor, this is the shortest cable coming from the left. Connect it to 'Y'.
![]()
- Place a 10 mm spacer over each bolt.
![]()
- Take the last motor cable which is coming from the left, this is the feeder motor. Connect it to 'E1'.
![]()
- Hold the board with the connectors towards the bottom panel and the On/Off button towards the back panel. Fit the button through the back panel and align the four corners of the Ultimainboard with the bolts.

Note: This process is different for several printers.
Ultimaker 2 Go: The mainboard of the Ultimaker 2Go is upside down compared to the other printers in the complete Ultimaker 2 family. It does not have to be flipped, since the side with the connectors is already facing towards you.
- Secure the Ultimainboard to the bottom panel
- Very loosely screw the bolts into the threaded spacers on the board. Start with the front right bolt, as seen from the front, and, going clockwise, secure each bolt with only a few turns. The mainboard should still be able to move slightly.
- Make sure to keep all wires out of the way and push the Ultimainboard firmly towards the back panel.
- Hold it in position while completely tightening the four bolts, in the same order as before.
![]()
- Ensure good cable management
- Place all the cables on the left side of the Ultimainboard neatly along the left panel.
- Loop the Y motor, feeder motor, hot end fan, Z limit switch and both heater wires neatly over the back of the Ultimainboard.
- Place all motor wires closely along their connectors on the right side of the Ultimainboard, towards the back.
![]()
- Placing the ferrite core
- Place the ferrite core over the cables of the Y motor and feeder motor and click it shut.
![]()
- Place the cover back over the Ultimainboard
- Slide the cover over the board at a slight angle and insert the two small tabs in the back panel. Make sure that no cables are stuck between the cover and the frame.
- Put the cover against the bottom panel, making sure that the two small tabs in the middle are inserted into the notches in the bottom panel and left panel.
