DRAINING THE FUEL TANK

Carefully read page 21 (FUEL).
WARNING
Risk of fire.
Allow for the engine and exhaust
silencer to cool down completely before
proceeding.
Fuel vapours are harmful to human
health.
Ensure the area is well ventilated before
proceeding.
Do not inhale fuel vapours.
Do not smoke, nor use naked flames.
DO NOT RELEASE FUEL INTO THE
ENVIRONMENT.
Place the vehicle on the centre stand on
u
firm and level ground.
u
Stop the engine and wait until it has
cooled down.
Prepare a container large enough to
u
hold the fuel in the tank and place it on
the floor on the left side of the vehicle.
u
Remove the fuel filler plug.
u
Drain fuel using a manual pump or
similar system.

WARNING
After draining the tank, put back the
filler plug in the proper position.
u
Refit the fuel filler plug.
To drain the carburettor completely,
proceed as follows:
u
Working on the right side of the

vehicle, position the pipe free end (1)
inside a container.
u
Take down left passenger

footrest (2).
u
Working on the left side of
504T
1004T
the vehicle, insert a screwdriver between
footrest and engine.
NOTE
When reassembling always
replace the clamp with a new one.

u
Loosen drain screw (3) under the float
chamber to drain the carburettor.
When all the fuel has flowed out of the
carburettor:
tighten the drain screw (3) completely.
Tighten the drain screw (3) with care, to
avoid fuel leakage from the carburettor
during refuelling.
If necessary, contact an aprilia Author-
ised Dealer.
