Adjustment and Replacement
Adjustment of Blade Engagement
Caution
When handling the reel cutter (cutting
cylinder) or bed knife (bottom blade), wear
gloves to protect your hands.
Pay attention not to let the reel cutter (cutting
cylinder) catch your gloves. Otherwise, you
may injure your hand or fingers.
1.
Stop the engine.
2.
Set the reel reverse lever to the "Neutral"
position.

Adjust the engagement between the reel
cutter (cutting cylinder) and the bed knife
(bottom blade) so that newspaper (one
piece) will be cut cleanly by the edge of both
blades when the blades in their entirety
come slightly into contact with each other via
the cutter adjustment nuts.
4.
Insert a strip of newspaper into the space
between the reel cutter (cutting cylinder) and
the bed knife (bottom blade) at an angle of
90 degrees. Then, rotate the reel cutter
(cutting cylinder) counter-clockwise (when
you face the mower unit from the left) to
check the sharpness of the blades.
Check the sharpness of the entire range
(three or four points) of the reel cutter
(cutting cylinder).
If a gap is created between edges:

Loosen (rotate counter-clockwise) the
cutter adjustment nut to apply more
contact pressure between the reel cutter
(cutting cylinder) and the bed knife
(bottom blade).

Reel reverse lever
If the reel cutter (cutting cylinder) is too

tight to turn:
Tighten (rotate clockwise) the cutter
adjustment nut to reduce the contact
pressure between the reel cutter (cutting
cylinder) and the bed knife (bottom blade).
・
If the sharpness is not improved by the
adjustment:
Perform back lapping.
