10 Chapter 2: Hardware installation and connection setup

Installing your Matrox Odyssey XG board

Before you install your Matrox Odyssey boards, some precautionary measures
must be taken. Turn off the power to your computer and its peripherals, and drain
static electricity from your body (by touching a metal part of the computer chassis).
Proceed with the following steps to install your board(s). Note that your board(s)
should be installed before you install your software.
1. Remove the cover from your computer; refer to your computer's documentation
for instructions.
2. Remove your existing graphics board
Note that if graphics hardware is built into the motherboard of your computer,
this graphics hardware should automatically disable itself after your Matrox board
is installed.
3. Check that you have an empty PCI-X slot(s) in which to install your Matrox
Odyssey XG board(s). It can also be installed in a conventional 32- or 64-bit PCI
slot, but this will reduce the transfer rate between the board and the Host.
1. With multi-display mode, you might be able to use your existing graphics board. See
the Windows 2000/XP online help under "Multiple Display Support".
