Hardware Installation

This section describes how to install your Matrox board. If your Matrox graphics
board is already installed in your computer, skip to Connecting display devices. Refer
to your computer's manual for system-specific information, for example, how to
remove your computer's cover.
To avoid personal injury, turn off your computer, unplug it, and then wait for it
to cool before you touch any of its internal parts. Take note that static electricity
can severely damage electronic parts; therefore, before touching any electronic
parts, drain static electricity from your body (by touching the computer's chassis,
for example). When handling your board, carefully hold it by its edges and avoid
touching its circuitry.
To install your board, follow the steps below:
1. For Windows NT users, switch to the standard VGA display driver. See the section
Basic procedures: Restarting in safe mode in the Troubleshooting chapter for
instructions.
2. Turn off your computer and all peripherals, such as your monitor or printer. Open
your computer and remove your existing graphics board
Note that if graphics hardware is built into the motherboard of your computer,
this graphics hardware should automatically disable itself after your Matrox board
is installed.
3. Remove a plate on the subrack, exposing an empty slot.
4. Carefully position your Matrox board along one of the guide rails and slide the
board towards the connector at the back. Push the board in firmly, but carefully
into the connector.
1. With multi-display mode, you might be able to use your existing graphics board. For
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP, see Windows 98/Me/2000/XP online help under "Multi-
ple Display Support". For Windows NT 4.0, only Matrox graphics board models sup-
ported by the Matrox display driver can be used.
