Background Printing
Printing with this driver is usually donc in the foreground, so the computer cannot be used for
other work while printing. However, you may want to be able to work in the foreground while
printing in the background; for example, to write a manuscript for a speech while printing images
for slides. You would use background printing to do this.
System Environment for Background Printing
During background printing, UP-D2500.Background is used together with the Chooser Driver, the
same system requirements pertain as when using the Chooser Driver by itself. Additionally, there
must be at least 8M bytes of real memory (not virtual memory) available for use by UP-
D2500.Background, and sufficient free space on the hard disk for spooling of the document being
printed. (The specific space requirement varies according to the size of the document, and may be
as great as 5M bytes per page.)
Outline of Operation
When UP-D2500.Background is loaded, printing from an application copies the document to a
spool file. With foreground printing, printing starts immediately, and the application cannot be
used until printing finishes. With background printing, the application can be used again as soon as
creation of the spool file is completed. The spool file is automatically deleted once printing is
done.
