Che cking and filling
Working on the battery
Be especially careful when working on or near
the battery!

Luggage compart ment: AGM batte ry
The battery is loca t ed in the luggage compart-
ment.

Swing up the luggage compartment floor.
The positive( +) battery terminal is protected
by a plast ic cover . This cover must be removed
to access the positive( +) termina l when con-
necting jumper cables to sta rt the eng ine .
Always heed the
safet y warnings,
when work-
ing on the vehicle battery or the vehicle elec-
tr ical system to prevent injury .

could cause personal injury.

Always keep the battery well out of
reach of children .

WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on
the elect rical system, there is the risk of
injury, accident and even fire. Read and
heed the fo llowing WARNINGS:
-Always wear eye protection. Do not let
battery ac id or any lead particles get on
your skin or clothing. Shield your eyes.
Explosive gases can cause blindness or
ot her inju ry.
- Battery acid conta ins sulfuric acid. Sulfu-
ric acid can ca use blindness and severe
burns .
- Always wear g loves and eye protection.
Do not tilt the battery because acid
could leak out of the ventilat ion open -
ings .
- If you get battery ac id in your eyes or
o n your skin, immediately rinse with
cold water for seve ral minutes and get
med ica l attent ion.
- If
you shou ld ingest any battery acid,
seek medical attention immediately.
- Do not expose the battery to an open
f lame, e lectr ic sparks or an open light .
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and neg-
ative cables.
- When working on the battery, be sure
not to short-circu it the termina ls with
tools or other metal objects . This would
cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
which could lead to damage or explosion
and pe rsonal injury.
- When a battery is charged, it produces

- Always keep the battery well out of the
reac h of children.
- Before work is done on the electrical sys-
tem, disconnect the negat ive g round ca-
ble.
- Before performing any wor k on the e lec-
tr ica l system, switc h off the eng ine and
ignit ion as well as any elec t rical equip-
ment. The nega t ive cab le on the bat t ery
