Always take the key with you when you
leave the vehicle. The key can disarm the
electronic engine immobilizer and perm it
an unauthor ized person to start the engine
and enable operat ion of t he vehicle sys-
tems such as powe r window leading to se-

- The vehicle cannot be started if an unau-
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
fo r anot her vehicle or a transpo nder is
locat ed on the key ring .

Power
locking
system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors simultaneously.
The power locking system in your vehicle in-
corporates the fo ll ow ing functions :
- Centr al locking f unction
- Remote contro l feature ¢ page 35.
- Ant i-Theft Alarm System ¢ page 42 .
All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the
centra l locking system when you lock the vehi-
cle .
The unlocking and locking mode* can be
changed in the driver information system
¢page 25.
Unlocking the vehicle
You can unlock the vehicle from outside either
by using the remote control or by inserting
and turning the key in the driver's door lock.
When you
unlock
your vehicle:

- The ant i-theft alarm system is deactivated
briefly.
- The vehicle interior lights illum inate for ap-
proximately 30 seconds.
- All turn signal lights w ill flash twice when
the car is unlocked .
- Aft er unlocking t he vehicle, you have 30 sec-
onds to open a door or the rear lid . After 30
seconds, the vehicle automatica lly locks and
the anti-theft alarm system activates again.
The rear lid can be locked or unlocked eit her
by using the remote contro l or by insert ing
and tu rning the key in the driver's door lock.
Unlocking the vehicle with the remote cont rol

will on ly unlock the rear lid, to open it, the
lid handle needs to be pressed.
Locking the vehicle
You can lock the veh icle from outs ide either by
using the remote control or by inserting and
turning the key in the drivers's door lock.
When you
lock
the veh icle:
- All doors and the rear lid are loc ked.
- All turn signal lig hts will flash once when
t he car is locked.
- The ant i-theft alarm system is act ivat ed.
The horn of the anti-the ft alarm system w ill
sound and t he ant i-theft alarm system read-
iness light, located in the center of the in-
st rument panel below the windshield on the
right side of the air vent, will start to blink .
- The vehicle interior lights turn off .
Automatic locking*
The aut omatic locking f eat ure locks all t he ve-
hicle doors and t he rear lid w hen you drive
f aster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
You can unlock t he vehicle from the inside by:
- removing the key from the ignition switc h
(t he vehicle w ill automatically un lock itself)
or
- pressing the unlock part of the power lock
switch
