General information
Your Audi was designed primarily for passen-
ger transportation .
If you plan to tow a tra iler, please remember
that the addit ional load will affect durab ility,
economy and performance .
Trailer towing not on ly places more stress on
the vehicle, it also calls for more concentra-
tion from the driver.
For this reason, always fo llow the operating
and drivi ng instr uctions provided and use
common sense.

Technical requirements
Traile r hitch
Use a weight-carrying hitch conforming to the
gross trailer we ight. The hitch must be suita-
ble for your veh icle and trailer and must be
mo unted secure ly on the ve hicle's chassis at a
technically sound
loca t ion . Use only a trailer
hitch with a removab le ball moun t . Always
check with the tra ile r hitch manufac tur er t o
make sure that you are using t he cor rect
hitch.
Do not use a bumper hitch.
The hitc h must be installed in such a way that
it does not interfe re with the impact-absorb-
ing bumper system. No modifications should
be made to the vehicle exhaust and brake sys -
tems . From ti me t o time, check th at a ll hitch
mo unt ing bo lts remain securely fastened.
When you are not towing a trailer, remove the
tra iler hitch ball moun t . This prevents the
hitch from causing damage sho uld your veh i-

Trailer brake s
If your t railer is equipped wit h a bra king sys-
tem, check to be sure t hat it conforms to all
regulations .
The trailer hyd rauli c brake system mus t not be
direc t ly connec t ed to t he vehicle's hydraulic
brake system .
Safety chains
Always use safety chains between your veh icle
and the tra ile r.
Trailer lights
Trailer lights must meet all reg ulations. Be
sure to check w ith your Audi dealer for correct
wiring, switches and relays .
Mirrors
If you are unable to see the traffic behind you
us ing the regular outside mirrors, then you
must
install extended mirrors.
It
is important
that you
always
have clear vis ion to the rear .

Afte r removi ng the trailer hitch, do not
stor e it in your vehicle . In case of sudden
braking, t he hitch could fly forwa rd and in-
j ure you or your passengers.
Operating instructions
Maximum trailer weight
A tra ile r fo r your vehicle is limited t o a typical
class 1 or class 2 tr aile r.
Trailer load distribution
Be sure the load in the tra ile r is held secure ly
in place to prevent it from shift ing forward,
backward or sideways.
Never allow a passenger to ride in a trailer

Engine cooling system
Towing a t railer ma kes the engine work hard-
er . It is important that the cooling system's
performance is up to the additional load.
