The VRD switch can be set for low
open-circuit voltage operation in
Stick mode. When the unit is con-
figured for low open-circuit voltage
operation only a low sensing
voltage (approximately 15 volts
DC) is present between the elec-
trode and workpiece prior to the
electrode touching the workpiece.
With Stick selected, start arc as
follows:

Drag electrode across workpiece like
striking a match; lift electrode slightly
after touching work. If arc goes out
electrode was lifted too high. If
electrode sticks to workpiece, use a
quick twist to free it.
VRD
open-circuit voltage is not present
before electrode touches workpiece;
only a low sensing voltage is present
2
between electrode and workpiece.
For optimal starting performance, a
good clean contact must be made be-
tween the electrode and workpiece.
