5. The start switch function is similar to an automobile
ignition switch.
An alarm sounds when the switch is turned on to warn
others that the machine engine is being started.
• Before starting the engine, check the amber engine
warning light. The amber light will be flashing if the
engine is cold and the engine heater is on. The amber
light may flash for 1 to 12 seconds, depending on the
engine and ambient air temperature.
• Do not start the engine until the amber light has
stopped flashing.
• If the engine turns over but does not start while the
amber light is flashing, turn the start switch to the off
position and back to the on position. Do not start the
engine until the amber light stops flashing.
• Hold the switch downward to start until the engine
starts, then release it to on.
• If the engine dies, the switch must be released to off
before it can be turned back to start.
Engine Speed Switch
The optional engine speed switch is to the left of the horn
switch on the upper control panel (refer to Figure 8.2). It
is used to set the engine idle speed to either high or low
idle. When in the downward or low engine speed position,
the engine idle speed is reduced to 1,300 rpm. Low speed
may be used to operate with reduced engine noise.

Boom Operation

Use the following procedure to operate the turntable,
boom, or platform functions.
1. Step down on the platform foot switch (refer to Figure
8.3). This switch must be held down to operate the
upper controls.

Note
If a machine function is not operated within 10 seconds of
activating the foot switch, no functions will operate until the
switch is released and again placed in the enable position.

Jib and Boom Simultaneous Operation

The jib and boom up/down functions may be operated
simultaneously when the chassis tilt is less than 3.5 de-
grees. When the chassis is tilted 3.5 degrees or more,
the jib and boom functions will not operate at the same
time as each other.

Dual Platform Capacity System

The optional dual platform capacity system restricts the
movement of the platform to keep it within safe work
parameters, based on the boom position. The platform
capacity will either be 600 lb or 1,000 lb.
The 1,000 lb capacity is active from the boom fully re-
tracted position, to an extend limit that is determined by
a boom length limit switch. When the boom is extended
beyond the 1,000 lb capacity limit distance, the 600 lb
capacity becomes active until the main boom is elevated
above a specific boom angle that is determined by boom
angle sensors.
There are two indicator lights on the lower and upper control
panels (refer to Figure 8.1 and 8.2) that indicate whether
the platform is in the 600 lb or 1,000 lb region of the working
envelope. Some boom control functions prevent positioning
the boom into a restricted position. The dual platform capac-
ity logic is shown in Figure 8.4.
