- Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies partic ularly whe n chil-
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherw ise chi l-
dren could start the engine, release t he
parking brake or operate elect rical equip-
ment such as power windows, which in-
creases the risk of an accident .
- No one should remain in the vehicle when it
is locked, especially children . Locked doors
make it more difficult for emergency wo rk-
ers to get into the vehicle, which puts lives
at risk.
Starting from a stop
The start assist function ensures that the park -
ing broke is released automatically upon start -
ing.
Stopping and setting the parking brake

Starting and automatically releasing the
parking brake

,.. When you press the accelerat or pedal, th e park-
ing brake is aut om at ically released and your ve-
hicle begins to move.
The parking brake can be set if you must stop the
vehicle at a st op light or in tr affic. The vehicle
does not have t o be held w it h t he brake pedal.
The parking brake elim inates the tendency to
creep when a selector lever position is engaged.
The parking brake releases automatically and the
vehicle begins to move as soon as you press the
accelerator pedal as usual.
Starting on slopes
When starting on inclines, the hill start assist
prevents the vehicle from uni ntentiona lly roll ing
back. The braking force of the parking brake is
not released until sufficient driving force has
been built up at the whee ls.

Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re-
leased automatically only when the driver's
safety belt is engaged in the buckle.
Starting to drive with a trailer
To prevent rolling bock unintentionally on on in-
cline, do the following:
,.. Keep the switch pulled ~ and press the accel-
erator pedal. The parking brake stays applied
and prevents the vehicle from roll ing backward .
,.. You can release the switch

once you are sure
that you are transferring enough drivi ng force
to the wheels by pressing the accelerato r pedal.
Depending on the we ight of the rig (vehicle and
trailer) and the severity of the incline, you may
roll backwards as you start.
Emergency braking function
This is used if the conventional broke system
fails or locks up.
,.. To brake your vehicle in an emergency, pull the

switc h and hold it pull ed.
,.. As soon as you release the

switch or acceler-
ate, the braking stops.
If
you pull the switch

and hold it above a
speed of about 5 mph (8 km/h), the emergency
braking fu nction is initiated. The vehicle is braked
at all four whee ls by activati ng the hydrau lic
brake system. The brake perfo rmance is simi lar
to maki ng an emergency stop ~ .&..
In order not to act ivate the emergency braking by
mistake, an audible warn ing tone (buzzer)
sounds when the~
switch is pulled . As soon as
the~
switc h is released, or the accelerator pedal
is depressed, emergency braking stops .

WARNING
Emergency braking should only be used in an
emergen cy, when t he norma l brake pedal has
failed or the brake pedal is obstructed . Using
the parking brake to perfo rm emergency brak-

ing will slow yo ur vehicle down as if you had
