Using the right fuel helps keep the environment
clean and prevents engine damage.
Fuel re commendation
The f uel recommended for your vehicle is
unlead-
ed premium
grade gasoli ne. Audi recommends
using TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline with a min i-
mum octane rating of 91 AKI (95 RON). For more
info rmation on TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline,
please go to the official website
(www.toptiergas.com).
The recommended gasoline octane rating for
your engine can also be found on a label located
on the inside of the fue l filler flap. This rat ing
may be specified as AKI or RON.
Your vehicle may also be operated using unlead-
ed regula r gasol ine with a minimum octane rat-
ing of
87 AKl/91 RON.
However, using
87 AKl/91
RON octane fue l will slight ly reduce engine per-
for mance.
Use unleaded gasoline only.
Unleaded gasoline
is available th roughout the USA, Canada, and in
most European countries. We recommend t hat
you do not ta ke your vehicle to areas or count ries
where unlea ded gasoline may not be available.

Octane rat ing
Octane rating ind icates a gasoli ne's ability to re-
sist engine damaging "knock" caused by prema-
ture ignition and detonation. Therefore, buying
the correct grade of gasoline is very importa nt to
help prevent possible eng ine damage and a loss
of engine performa nce.
Gasoline most commonly used in the United
States and Canada has the following octane rat-
ings that can usually be found on the filler pump:
- Premium Grade: 91 - 96 AKI

- Regular Grade: 87 - 90 AKI

AKI = Anti Knock I ndex= (R+M)/2 = (RON+MON)/

RON= Research Octane Number
MON= Motor Octane Number.

Note
- Do not use any fue l w ith octane rat ings low-
er t han 87 AKI or 91 RON ot herwi se expen-
sive engine damage w ill occur.
- Do
not
use leaded gasoline . The use of lead-
ed gasoline will severely damage your veh i-
cle's cataly t ic convert er and it s abili ty to
cont rol exhaust em issions.
Blended gasoline

(methyl tert iary butyl ether)
You may use unleaded gasoline blended with al-
cohol or MTBE (commonly referred to as oxygen-
ates) if t he blended mixture meet s the following
criteria :
Blend of gasoline methanol (wood alcohol or
methyl alcohol)
- Anti -knock index must be 87 AKI or higher.
- Blend must contain no more t han 3% metha-
nol.
- Blend must contain more than 2% co-solven t s.
Blend of gasoline and ethanol (grain alcohol or
ethyl alcohol)
- Anti-knoc k index must be 87 AKI or higher.
- Blend must not conta in more than 15% etha-
nol.
Blend of gasoline and MTBE
- Anti-knoc k index must be 87 AKI or higher.
- Blend must contain not mo re tha n 1S% MTBE.
Seasonally adjusted gasoline
Many gasoline grades are blended to perfo rm es-
pecially well for winter or summer dr iving . Dur-
ing seasonal change-over, we suggest that you
