8.1.2 KSC Firmware
An embedded controller (Microchip MEC1521) is used for System Management functions, watchdog support, and
various other features.
The firmware of the embedded controller (EC) can be updated by the AFUflash tool, using the appropriate flash file for
the specific motherboard model (see previous section).
In order to update the EC firmware, following handling is required:
BIOS Setup > Security: [EC Firmware Update] = [Enable]
Save Changes and Restart
The system performs two reboots, and will be able to flash the EC firmware after the second reboot
Command to run EC firmware update (BIOS EFI Update Stick must be inserted):
ec-update-efi.nsh
# EFI shell based update script
ec-update-win.cmd
# Windows batch based update script
After the firmware update, please power off the system completely (AC off) in order to restart the EC with new
firmware.

NOTICE
Embedded controller firmware update handling is included in BIOS update scripts per default.
8.1.3 CSME Firmware
The Intel Management Engine (CSME) will be updated during standard BIOS update using MeFwUpd utility from Intel.
No manual steps necessary. Ensure that the special flashfile "MEFW_K*.bin" is available in the update path. Always use
the complete BIOS update package which is provided by Kontron.
Do not manually exchange the CSME flash file. Otherwise unsupported BIOS/CSME firmware combinations with
unexpected behaviors are the result.
