9 TROUBLE SHOOTING AND SOLUTION
Malfunction
The pump does not
work.
Poor spray pattern
Irregular pump opera-
tion: spray jet collapses
(pulsation).
Highly irregular opera-
tion of the pump.
The pump runs evenly,
but does not suck up
any product.
Pump runs fast when
the spray gun is closed.
Loss of power due to
severe icing in the air
motor

Cause
Air motor does not work or stops.
No pressure indication on the pressure
gauge (air pressure regulator defec-
tive).
Spray nozzle is clogged.
Insufficient supply of compressed air
Filter insert in spray gun or high-pres-
sure filter is clogged.
Fluid section or high-pressure hose is
blocked (e.g., 2K product hardened).
Grease in spool and sleeve assembly.
Occasionally, the pump stops at the re-
versal point.
Please refer to the gun manual.
Viscosity is too high.
Spraying pressure is too low.
Valves are clogged.
Foreign body in suction valve.
Diameter of compressed air line too
small.
Valves, packings, or pistons are worn
out.
Control air filter or work air filter is
clogged.
Diaphragm blocked because suctioning
is too fast.
The suction system's union nut is loose;
the pump is taking in air.
Suction filter is clogged.
Valves are clogged.
Valves worn.
There is a lot of condensation water in
the air supply.
Solution
Open and close ball valve on the pres-
sure regulator unit or briefly disconnect
compressed air supply.
Disconnect compressed air supply
briefly or repair or change pressure regu-
lator.
Clean the nozzle according to the in-
structions.
Check compressed air supply.
Clean the parts and use suitable prod-
uct.
Dismount and clean fluid section, re-
place high-pressure hose.
Degrease spool and sleeve assembly.
Check detent body.
Thin product.
Increase incoming air pressure. Use a
smaller nozzle.
Press valve depressor.
Clean pump. If necessary, leave it to soak
in cleaning agent.
Dismantle suction valve housing, clean
and check valve seat.
Assemble a larger supply line -> Chapter
Data [8 22]
Replace the parts.
Check and clean it if necessary.
Operate pump temporarily with ball
valve opened a minimal amount.
Tighten union nut.
Clean the filter.
Press valve depressor.
Clean pump. If necessary, leave it to soak
in cleaning agent.
Replace the parts.
Install a water separator.
