10.5.2 Recovery Using a Backup Drive

● Wear cotton gloves when replacing a drive in order to prevent failure caused by
static electricity. If you do not, the data stored on the drive may get corrupted.
● Make sure you check the correct procedure before you start the work.
If you do not follow the correct procedure, the data stored on the drive may be lost.
Prepare a backup drive as well as a brand-new drive, or drive to which "Initialize Drives"
has been applied. Then recover the array by following the procedure below. When you install
and remove a drive, see "6.3.6 Installing and removing an HDD" for the procedure.
< NOTE >
・The following is the procedure for the drive mounted in drive bay 1.
When you make a backup drive from the drive mounted to drive bay 2, interpret
drive bay 1 as drive bay 2.
・When a brand-new drive or an appropriately prepared drive is installed, its
capacity must be the same as the capacity of the backup drive.
1. Shut down the OS, and unplug the plug of the power cord from the outlet. If drives are
mounted, remove both drives.
2. Install the backup drive in drive bay 1 and a new or initialized drive in drive bay 2.
3. Turn on the equipment. RAID1 will automatically detect the new or initialized drive
and start rebuilding. During rebuilding, the HDD1 status lamp blinks.
4. The OS starts while the rebuild process is continuing. The time it takes to rebuild depends
on the application being run during the rebuild. For this reason, refrain from running
applications until the rebuild finishes. If you do not want to start the OS, turn on the
equipment and then, while the system initialization message is displayed, press the F2 key
to launch the BIOS setup menu.
5. When the HDD2 status lamp turns off, the rebuild process is complete. Also, in the
Hardware status window, confirm that both drives are healthy. If you launched the BIOS
setup menu in step 5, open the higher-level menu Exit, move the cursor to Exit Saving
Changes, and then press Enter. The message "Save configuration changes and exit now?"
is displayed. Press Enter to restart the equipment.
