(2) Replacing a drive with the equipment turned off
1. Back up the data.
(See "(2) Backing Up Files" in "4. HARD DISKS DRIVES (HDDs)" in
"PRECAUTIONS".)
2. Double-click the hardware status display icon in the notification area of the task bar to
display the hardware status display window. In the hardware status display window,
check the drive that failed.
3. Shut down the OS, and then disconnect the equipment's power cord from the outlet. Wait
at least one minute, and then replace the drive that failed with a replacement drive.
(See "6.3.6 Installing and removing an HDD".)
4. Turn on the equipment. The equipment automatically detects that a replacement drive has
been installed and starts the rebuild. Confirm that the HDD status lamp of the replacement
drive is flashing.
5. The OS runs during the rebuild. The amount of time the rebuild takes depends on the
applications that are running during the rebuild. For this reason, refrain from running
applications until the rebuild finishes.
The RAID1 rebuild takes about 3 hours 30 minutes (when there is no load on the drive).
If you do not want to start the OS, turn on the equipment and then, while the system
initialization message is displayed, press the F2 key to launch the BIOS setup menu.
6. When the HDD status lamp turns off, the rebuild is complete. In the hardware status
display window, confirm that both drives are operating normally.
If you launched the BIOS setup menu in step 5, open the higher-level menu Exit, move
the cursor to Exit Saving Changes, and then press Enter.
The message "Save configuration changes and exit now?" is displayed. Press Enter to
restart the equipment.
<NOTE>
・If the RAID status is shown as [Optimal(Media Error)] after rebuilding has been
completed, we recommend that you back up data and then also replace the copy
source drive with a new one. (For the replacement procedure, see "6.3.6
Installing and removing an HDD".)
After both HDDs have been replaced, set up the computer again and restore data
from the backup file. (For how to set up the computer again, see "10.2.2 Setting
Up a New RAID1".) Or, recover the computer by using the backup drive.
(See "10.5.2 Recovery Using a Backup Drive".)
