SHARPENING
OR REPLACING
THE SHRED=
DER BLADE
1.
Stopthe engineand makecertain that all movingparts have
cometo a completestop.
2.
Disconnectthe spark plugwire and groundagainstthe engine•
3.
Lowerthe hopperassemblyand block up the housing.
4.
Remove the six hexlock nuts and flat washersfromthe weld
studson the flail housing.Retain the hardware.
5.
Carefullyseparatethe hopperassemblyfrom the impeller
assemblyand removethesupport plate•
NOTE:When reassembling the supportplate, makecertainthe
embossedtab facesinwardtowardsthe impeller.
6.
Removethe two wingknobs thatsecurethe chute deflectorand
raisethe chute.
7.
Inserta 1/2" or 3/4" diameterpipethroughthe flailscreen intothe
impellerto keepit from turningor removetheflail screenand
insert a pieceof woodinto thechute opening.
8.
a. Removethe two internalhexscrews,lock washers,and hex
lock nuts whichsecurethe shredderbladeto theimpeller.
b. Removethe hex bolt, lock washer,and flat washerto
completely free shredderblade.See Figure16.
NOTE:Use a 3/16" hexkey (Allen)wrenchon theoutside of the
shredderbladeand a 1/2" box(or socket)wrenchon the insideof the
shredderblade.HoldtheAllen wrenchstationaryand rotatethe box

(or socket)wrenchto loosenthe nut. Usecautionwhenremovingthe
bladeto avoidcontactingthe weldstudson housing.
IMPORTANT:Whensharpeningthe blade,follow theoriginal angle
of grindas a guide.It is extremelyimportantthat eachcuttingedge
receivesan equalamountof grindingto preventan unbalancedblade.
An unbalancedbladewill causeexcessivevibrationwhen rotatingat
highspeedsand maycausedamageto the unit.The bladecan be
testedby balancingit on a screwdriver or nail.Removemetalfrom the
heavysideuntil it is balancedevenly.

disengage all
controlsandstoptheengine. W aituntilall movingpartshavecometo
a complete stop.Disconnect sparkplugwireandgroundit against t he
enginetoprevent u nintended starting. A lwayswearsafetyglassesduring
operation or whileperforming anyadjustments or repairs.

serviceguidelinesonly. Usethe ServiceLog columnto keeptrackof
