Beforeperformingany type of maintenanceon the machine,wait for
all parts to stop movingand disconnectthe spark plugwire. Failure
I to followthis instructioncouldresult in personalinjuryor property
|damage.
REMOVING
THE FLAIL SCREEN
If the dischargearea becomesclogged, removetheflail screenand
cleanarea as follows:
1.
Stopthe engine.Make certainthe chippershredderhascometo
a completestop.
2.
Disconnectspark plug wirefrom sparkplug and groundagainst
theengine.
3.
a. Removethe bagand two wingknobs on eachsideof the chute
deflector.See Figure14.
b. Lift thechute deflectorup to keepit out of the way.
c. Removethe two hairpinclips fromeachclevis pin whichextend
throughthe housingand removepins.
d. Removethe flailscreen from insidethe housingand cleanthe
screen byscrapingor washingwith water.See Figure14.
4. Reinstallthe screen,makingcertainto reassembletheflail screen
with the curveside down.
5. Reattachthe chute deflectorwith the hardwarepreviouslyremoved
and connectthe bag to unit.
SHARPENING
OR REPLACING
CHIPPER
BLADES
1.
Disconnectthe spark plug wireand groundagainstthe engine.
2.
Removethe flail screenas instructedin the previoussection.
3.
Removethe chipperchute byremovingthree hexnuts and
washers.
4.
Removethe chipperchutesupport bracefrom the frameby
removingthe hex bolts.
5.
Rotateimpellerassemblyby hand untilyoulocate one of two
chipperbladesin the chipperchuteopening.
6.
Removethe bladeby removingthe internalhexscrews,lock
washers,and hex nutswhich secureit to the impeller.Retainthe
hardware.See Figure15.
NOTE:Usea 3/16" hexkey (Allen)wrenchon the outsideof the blade
and a 1/2" box (or socket)wrenchon the insideof the impeller.Hold
the Allenwrenchstationaryand rotatethe box (or socket)wrenchto
loosenthe nut.

Installa replacementblade(Part No. 781-0490)with the hardware
removedearlier or sharpen.
IMPORTANT: W hensharpeningthe blade,protecthandsby using
gloves.Followthe originalangleof grindand makesureto removean
equalamountfrom eachblade.
NOTE: Makecertainbladesare reassembledwith thesharpedge
facing upward.Torquehardwareto 250- 300 in. Ibs.
The impeller'schipperbladesand shredderbladeare sharp.Wear
eatherworkg ovesto protectyourhands.
