6.3.2 Gasket
It is important to replace the gasket with another having the
same diameter and density to maintain a good seal.
17. Remove the door and place it face-down on
something soft like a cushion of rags or a
piece of carpet.
18. Remove the old gasket from the door. Use
a screwdriver to scrape the old gasket
adhesive from the door gasket groove.
19. Apply a bead of approximately 5 mm of
high temperature silicone in the door gasket
groove. Starting from the middle, hinges
side, press the gasket into the groove.
The gasket must not be stretched during
installation
20. Leave about 13 mm long of gasket when
cutting and press the end into the groove.
Tuck any loose fibers under the gasket and
into the silicone.
21. Close the door. Do not use the stove for 24
hours.

6.4 Chimney Maintenance

Wood smoke can condense inside the chimney, forming an inflammable deposit called creosote.
If creosote is allowed to build up in the venting system, it can ignite when a hot fire is burned in
the stove and a very hot fire can progress to the top of the chimney. Severe chimney fires can
damage even the best chimneys. Smouldering, smoky fires can quickly cause a thick layer of
creosote to form. When the stove is operated properly, the exhaust from the chimney is mostly
clear and creosote builds up more slowly.
6.4.1 Cleaning Frequency
It is not possible to predict how much or how quickly creosote will form in the chimney. It is
important, therefore, to check the build-up in the chimney monthly until the rate of creosote
formation is determined. Even if creosote forms slowly in the system, the chimney should be
cleaned and inspected at least once each year.
Contact the local municipal or provincial fire authority for information on how to handle a chimney
fire. Have a clearly understood plan to handle a chimney fire.
6.4.2 Chimney Sweeping
Chimney sweeping can be a difficult and dangerous job. People with no chimney sweeping
experience will often prefer to hire a professional chimney sweep to inspect and clean the system
for the first time. After seeing the cleaning process, some will choose to do it themselves.
