9 Charging ink
This section describes the procedure to install Ink
cartridges for the first time.
NOTE
The procedures differ depending on the product.
Check your printer model name and follow the
correct procedure.
9.1 Installing 220ml/440ml ink
cartridges
9.1.1 For VJ-2638X/1938X/1638X
1. Turn the printer ON.
The printer starts the initializing operation.
After the initial operation is compete, "Start Ink
Charge ? > E" is displayed on the operation panel.
2. Press the [Enter] key on the operation panel.
"Insert Cleaning cart." is displayed on the operation
panel.
3. Take out the cleaning cartridge(8pcs) from the bag.
4. Rotate Ink cartridge slots 90 degrees upward.

5. Set the cleaning cartridge to the ink cartridge slot.
Keep the arrow of cleaning cartridge facing up and
insert it into the printer toward the front side.

Insert the cleaning cartridge all the way to the end
of the ink cartridge slot.
When all cleaning cartridges are installed,
"Busy-Washing" is displayed on the operation panel,
and the printer starts charging the cleaning fluid.
When the cleaning fluid has been charged,
"Remove Cartridges" is displayed on the operation
panel.

6. Remove all the cleaning cartridges.

Cleaning cartridge
"Busy-Washing" is displayed on the operation panel
and the printer starts head cleaning.
When head cleaning is complete, "Wash retry? No"
is displayed on the operation panel.
7. Press the [Enter] key on the operation panel.
"Insert InkCartridges" is displayed on the operation
panel.
8. Take out the ink cartridge from the bag and gently
shake it two to three times.
a. For 4 colors
You need the following cartridges.
Black (K)
Cyan (C)
Magenta (M)
Yellow (Y)
b. For 7 colors
You need the following cartridges.
Magenta (M)
Light Magenta (Lm) : 1 cartridge
Cyan (C)
Light Cyan (Lc)
Cleaning fluid (CL) : 1 cartridge
Black (K)
Yellow (Y)
Light Black (Lk)

9. Install all ink cartridges into the ink cartridge slots
on the rear side of the printer.
Slots for ink cartridges are specified depending on
colors of the ink cartridges. Match the ink color
label with the ink color before inserting Ink
cartridge.
Insert the ink cartridge all the way to the end of the
ink cartridge slot.
Keep the arrow of Ink cartridge facing up and insert
it into the printer toward the front side.

When all the ink cartridges are installed, "Ink Refill
**%" is displayed on the operation panel and ink
charging starts.
Initial charging takes time as follows.
VJ-2638X : Approx 20 minutes
VJ-1938X : Approx 18 minutes
VJ-1638X : Approx 17 minutes
Ink charging operation and pause operation are
repeated during the ink charging.
When "100%" is displayed, the ink charging is
complete.
After the ink charging is complete, "Media End" is
displayed on the operation panel.
