    1 Overview 1.1 About this Manual In this hardware manual all versions of the CAN-PCI/402 are described together as CAN-PCI/402. Differences of the CAN-PCI/402 variants are noted accordingly. Available features, options and supplied items may vary depending on the CAN-PCI/402 version you selected.

    CAN0 only Figure 1: Block circuit diagram The CAN-PCI/402 is a PC board designed for the PCI bus that features one (CAN-PCI/402-1), two (CAN-PCI/402-2) or four (CAN-PCI/402-4/2Slot) electrically isolated high-speed CAN interfaces according to ISO 11898-2. The Classical CAN versions support CAN bit rates up to 1 Mbit/s. The independent CAN interfaces are designed according to ISO 11898-1.

    Due to the higher bit rate in the data phase in combination with the increase of efficiency by a higher number of user-data bytes, CAN FD offers a higher data throughput while maintaining the benefits of the Classical CAN. The CAN-PCI/402-2-FD is fully backwards compatible with CAN and can also be used in Classical CAN applications. INFORMATION Every CAN FD controller is backward compatible to the Classical CAN protocol.

    Disconnect the power supply of the PC from the mains. Make sure that no risk arises from the system into which the CAN-PCI/402 shall be inserted. Read the manual of the system used and follow the instructions of the system manufacturer.
  • Page 19 This applies accordingly if you install the CAN-PCI/402-2-FD with the optional LIN extension CAN/402-Slot2-LIN, see (1). Insert the CAN-PCI/402 board and, if used, the adapter into the selected PCI slots. Carefully push the boards down until they snap into place.
