3.1 GETTING STARTED

The V8010
Color Echosounder combines the operations of Fishfinding
with those of Navigation. This Chapter of the manual provides the descrip-
tions and instructions for aU of the operations of the Fishfinder, Tracking
Plotter, and Navigation sections.
To keep the operation of the V8010 simple and as automatic as possible,
the V8010 uses many on-screen menus, messages, and prompts to help
guide you through various operations. You should master the unit very
quickly and the approach you should take while becoming familiar with the
operations is one of relaxed confidence.
This section begins
screens ofthe V8010. Operations that control the Fishfinder portion ofthe
unit appear immediately following the display screen descriptions. The
Tracking Plotter and Navigation operations follow later in this section.
As you read through this section of the manual you will notice that when
operations caU for keys to be pressed to
complete entries, the ke s are highlighted in
key shaped boxes, i.e.
the instructions. In addition, the V8010 in-
cludes a built-in echo sounder/GPS simula-
tor that can produce examples of the
fishfinding and navigation displays without
being connected to a transducer or an an-
tenna. AU you will need is the V8010,'with
its power cord, and a 12 VDC
power supply. If DC power is hooked up to
the unit, you can activate this simulator as
