Installing a 1.44 MB diskette drive

The following notes describe the type of diskette drive that your server supports and
other information that you must consider when installing a diskette drive:
v Your xSeries 450 server supports one diskette drive.
v The diskette drive must be installed in the left drive bay.
v The IDE drives installed in your server are not hot-swappable.
v Your operating system must support a diskette drive.
Complete the following steps to install a diskette drive in your server:
1. Review the information in "Safety" on page v, and "Installation guidelines" on
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and

Filler panel
a. Ensure that the handle on the hard disk drive tray is in the open position.
b. Slide the drive into the bay until it stops.
c. Push the handle on the front of the hard disk drive closed.
d. Check the hard disk drive status LED to verify that the hard disk drive is
operating properly.
If the amber hard disk drive error LED for a drive is lit continuously, that
individual drive is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the green hard disk
drive activity LED is flashing, the drive is being accessed.
