Lattus A10 Access Node Installation Guide
Samba Without Active
The system requirement for CIFS access without Active Directory is
having a simple set of pre-configured users. The general idea is to have
10 users with names in the form lattus_user1 through lattus_user_10
preconfigured in /etc/passwd and in the smbpasswd file.
At a customer site, be sure the customer provides a range of uids/gids.
Following is an overview of the installation and configuration steps:
• Install all the same packages as for the Active Directory
configuration, but then disable much of the functionality.
This is because the Centrify Samba package depends on many base
libraries installed by Centrify DirectControl, even though this
configuration does not enable DirectControl itself.
• It is not necessary to perform the steps to create the _quantum_sfu
zone on a separate Windows box.
• If the _quantum_sfu zone is already in an Active Directory, this will
not affect this configuration, so it is possible to have both Active-
Directory-enabled Lattus systems and non-AD Lattus systems in the
same environment.
This is because the non-AD systems do not join the Active Directory
domain and thus have no access to the _quantum_sfu zone
configuration.
