Testing Safety Devices
ƒ Perform Test of Limit Controls
Fire the boiler and test the high limit control as follows:
1. Alter high temperature limit to a value lower than the anticipated loop
temperature. Turn the boiler on. Water temperature will rise until the
boiler locks out. This condition has to be manually reset.
2. Alter the high limit cut off temperature to normal level, typically 10-20
degrees above set point.
ƒ Perform Test of Low Gas Pressure Switch
This applies only to CSD-1 boilers. Test the low gas pressure switch as follows:
1. With the boiler running turn up the low gas pressure switch until a lock out
is annunciated.
2. Return the switch to normal setting, re-start the boiler.
ƒ Perform Test of High Gas Pressure Switch
This applies only to CSD-1 boilers. Test the high gas pressure switch as follows:
1. With the boiler running turn down the high gas pressure switch until a lock
out is annunciated.
2. Return the switch to normal setting, re-start the boiler.
ƒ Perform Test of Low Water Cut Off
Test as follows:
1. With the boiler idle, turn the switch on the front of the boiler to the left
position and hold for approximately 3 seconds. Observe the light switching
off on the Low Water Cut Off relay.
2. Turn the switch to the right position, an alarm will be enunciated.
3. Return the switch to the center position and acknowledge the alarm.
4. To reset the Low Water Cut Off relay, momentarily turn the switch to the
left position. Do not hold as this will start the test sequence again.
