Configuring Numbering Plans in the Norstar VoIP Gateway

If a location is used for off system access to the local PSTN (toll bypass), it will serve a range of
public numbers as well as the private numbers representing the extensions on that system. These
numbers should be recorded as well.
The following table provides an example of how this might be setup. This table includes other
information that is pertinent to configuration of each site.

Configuring Numbering Plans in the Norstar VoIP Gateway
The NPI/TON values in
configuration of the Norstar VoIP Gateway. All endpoints in the VoIP network must coordinate
their number classification schemes. For example, calls that are destined for the PSTN should be
classified in the appropriate Public numbering plan. Calls that are internal may be classified as
Private level 1 or level 0 depending on whether the private network uses UDP or CDP plans.
When registering with a Radvision ECS gatekeeper, it is important to define the NPI/TON
classification in addition to the digit prefix used. A gatekeeper is used to determine what IP
address a calling gateway should use for each call. The Radvision ECS gatekeeper uses both the
digits and the NPI/TON classification when it resolves the numbers. Therefore, you must
completely specify the number on the Registration Prefixes Table screen of the destination
gateway and, on the origination gateway, you must classify the dialed number for the correct NPI/
TON on the Destination Phone Number Manipulation Table for Tel -> IP Calls screen.
The following examples shows a gateway that is configured to handle public telephone numbers in
the 613 area code as well as private numbers for a 4 digit dialing plan for numbers in the range of
2200 to 2245.
