The GX-80 offers a number of methods that can be used to enhance
your printing. In addition to various software commands, the Selec-
Type feature of the GX-80 is designed to give you easy access to five
typestyles. For example, a few finger-presses on the control panel of
the printer allow you to change the printing from

You can also select some of these typestyles with the DIP switches in
the back of the printer. Details are given in Appendix D.
Dot Matrix Printing
To understand the difference between standard printing and the five
special typestyles available with SelecType, it will help to have some
background knowledge about dot matrix printing, the printing
method used by the GX-80.
With dot matrix printing, all letters, symbols and graphics are made
up of patterns of dots. Standard (draft) printing uses from 10 to 15
dots to form most letters. In this mode, the printed characters are
clear and readable and the printing is extremely fast - 100 charac-
ters per second (cps).
