The SX16+ is a programmable microprocessor
based relay controller containing 16 low voltage
relays; each rated at 1 Amp/24V (A.C. or D.C.).
The SX16+ is also the central data, control and
equipment hookup point of any SX Series Control
System.
Up to sixteen SX16+ Relay Controllers may be
'looped' together using two modular telephone-type
jacks on the rear of each unit. Control systems with
16 to 256 discrete functions may be created.
Each relay in an SX16+ may be used for control of
one (1) discrete function in a media control system
and may be set mechanically and electronically for
the following modes to suit various applications:
Relay Settings
Normally Open Relays (N.O.) - Relay contacts
close only while relay is energized.
Normally Closed Relays (N.C.) - Relay contacts
open only while relay is energized.
Momentary Relay Operation - Relay is activated
only while control button is held.
Latching Relay Operation - Relay is activated first
time control button is pushed, de-activated second
time it is pushed.
Adjacent Channel Commoning - For applications
where several functions of one piece of equipment
are being controlled. A single common line from the
controlled equipment can be "bussed" to two or
more adjacent relays in an SX16+.
This feature eliminates the need for "looping"
common lines at the relay terminal strip and cleans
up installation wiring.
Accessing Relay Contacts
All connections to the SX 16+ relays are made to
quick disconnect "captive wire' connectors on the
rear panel. Each plug-in connector will accept 4
control lines (each with a "common") for a total of 8
wires.
AMX Reserves the right to alter specifications without notice at any time.

General Description of SX16+ Relay Controller
SX16+ Front Panel
On the front of the SX16+ are 16 buttons with
LEDs. Each of the buttons controls a relay inside
and can serve as "Local Control" of a system.
The LED in each button illuminates when its
associated relay is energized.
Front Panel Programming
SX16+ front panel buttons are also used to program
the SX16+ for various control and coding options.
Front panel programming settings include:
SX16+ Radio Address - Each SX16+ in a system
may be assigned a unique radio code designating it
as #1 to #14.
®
Wireless or SoftWire
entering this mode, any button on any AMX
Wireless or SoftWire Control Panel may be mated
to one or more relays in the SX1 6+ Controllers.
After assignment, assigned relays will activate
whenever the same button is pushed again.
Momentary/Latching Operation - In this mode,
the momentary / latching status of each relay may
be checked or set.
Mutually Exclusive Sets of Relays - This program
mode will allow any two or more relays to be
mutually exclusive to each other. If three latching
relays are set to- be exclusive of each other, only
one can be on at a time. If a second relay is
activated, the first de-activates, etc.
Other Front Panel Program Modes
It is also possible to set the Baud rate for each
SX16+ when using computers for control, and to set
the device code for each SX16+.
Other program modes will be added later which
include timed sequences and conditional
commands.
