Creating a Direct Connect Composable Fabric
You can directly connect FM 2072 fabric modules using a QSFP+-to-QSFP+ cable such as DAC or AOC.
You cannot directly connect FM 2072 fabric modules in a network that contains models 2, 2s, 2p or 2sp.
You should not directly connect FM 2072 fabric modules in a network if the deployment is expected to grow beyond
seven fabric modules.
About Connecting a Fabric using Direct Connect
You can deploy a fabric of two to seven fabric modules using direct connect; directly connecting the fabric modules.
Directly connect FM 2072 fabric modules together using QSFP+-to-QSFP+ cables such as a Direct Attach Cable (DAC) or
Active Optical Cable (AOC).
NOTE: A single direct-connect Composable Fabric cannot exceed 7 fabric modules.
FM 2072, FM 3132Q, FM 3032Q, and FM 3180 can all be deployed on the same fabric using direct connect on the same
fabric operating at 10 Gbps (40 Gbps for each QSFP+, or 4x10 Gb/s).
FM 2072, FM 3132Q, FM 3032Q, and FM 3180 cannot connect with Plexxi legacy models 2, 2s, 2p or 2sp using direct
connect. Mixing the HPE FM modules with the legacy Plexxi models must be done using FM 1006 modules.
Connection Guidelines
NOTE: For information on FM 2072 ports, refer to the section Overview: Network Port Cabling and Port Type.

To help in cabling the fabric, number the FM 2072 fabric modules in the fabric starting with 1. For example, if you are
connecting five FM 2072 fabric modules, number them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. You can affix a label to each fabric module for
identification. Refer to the appropriate section that follows for your fabric size.

It may be easiest to start with module# 1, connect the three top ports 49, 51 and 53 as defined in the appropriate
section that follows for your fabric size. Then continue with cabling from module 2 ports 49, 51 and 53, then module 3,
etc.
The following sections define cabling for direct-connect fabrics from two to seven FM 2072 fabric modules.
NOTE: A direct connect fabric cannot exceed seven fabric modules.
Two-Module Fabric
These are the connections to create a Composable Fabric consisting of two FM 2072 fabric modules.
