v Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem
is solved.
v See Chapter 3, "Parts listing, System x3755 Type 8877 and 7163," on page 25 to determine which
components are customer replaceable units (CRU) and which components are field replaceable units
(FRU).
v If an action step is preceded by "(Trained service technician only)," that step must be performed only by a
trained service technician.
Error code
Description
166-405-xxx
BMC indicates I2C errors on bus 1 (CPU
Card 3).
166-406-xxx
BMC indicates I2C errors on bus 2.
166-407-xxx
BMC indicates I2C errors on bus 3.
166-408-xxx
BMC indicates I2C errors on bus 4.
166-409-xxx
BMC indicates I2C errors on bus 5.
Action
1.
Remove all microprocessor/memory cards except
CPU Card 3. See "Removing a
microprocessor/memory card" on page 51. Run
the BMC I2C Bus Test from F2 Extended
Diagnostics. If error remains, reinstall all
microprocessor/memory cards, see "Replacing a
microprocessor/memory card" on page 51; then,
continue with 2. If the error does not recur, install
the microprocessor/memory cards one at a time,
running the BMC I2C Bus Test from F2 Extended
Diagnostics after each installation until you locate
the failing microprocessor/memory card.
2. Reseat the microprocessor/memory card. See
"Removing a microprocessor/memory card" on
page 51 and "Replacing a microprocessor/
memory card" on page 51.
3. Replace the following components one at a time,
in the order shown, restarting the server each
time:
a. Microprocessor/memory card, see "Removing
a microprocessor/memory card" on page 51
and "Replacing a microprocessor/memory
card" on page 51.
b. (Trained service technician only) I/O board.
See "Removing the I/O board assembly" on
page 68 and "Replacing the I/O board
assembly" on page 69.
(Trained service technician only) I/O board. See
"Removing the I/O board assembly" on page 68 and
"Replacing the I/O board assembly" on page 69.
(Trained service technician only) I/O board. See
"Removing the I/O board assembly" on page 68 and
"Replacing the I/O board assembly" on page 69.
