This Quick Start Guide is designed to guide you through installation and also includes warranty terms.

System Requirement

Either of the following is required:

  • iOS or Android Smartphone with UniFi App Installed
  • Web Browser: Google Chrome (Other browsers may have limited functionality)


We strongly recommend using UPS backup and power regulation to prevent equipment damage due to stability issues with local AC power.

TERMS OF USE: All Ethernet cabling runs must use CAT5 (or above). It is the professional installer's responsibility to follow local country regulations, including operation within legal frequency channels, output power, indoor cabling requirements, and Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) requirements.

Hardware Overview - Ports

Interface Description
LAN RJ45 ports support 10/100/1000 Ethernet connections. By default, they are set to DHCP Server with the fallback IP address, 192.168.1.1/24.
Internet The RJ45 port supports a 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection. Set to DHCP Client by default.
Power Connect the included AC Power Cord.

System LED

Hardware Overview - System LED

Color State Status
White

Solid Device is ready to be configured
Flashing Device is booting up
Device is initializing/deinitializing
Heartbeat Firmware update in process
Blue
Solid Device is configured and ready
Slow Flashing Client connected to device via Bluetooth (BLE)
Off/White/ Blue Flashing Device is in recovery mode.
The LED will cycle through a pattern at one‑second intervals, between off, white, and blue.

Reset Button

Hardware Overview - Reset Button

Button Description
Reset Resets to factory defaults. The UniFi Dream Machine should be running after bootup is complete. Press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds until the LED starts flashing and then becomes solidly lit. After a few seconds, the LED will turn off, and the UniFi Dream Machine will automatically reboot.

Installation Requirements

Use Category 5 (or above) UTP cabling approved for indoor use.


To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this product to rain or moisture.

Hardware Installation

  1. Connect the AC Power Cord to the Power port of the UniFi Dream Machine and a power outlet.Hardware Installation-Step 1
  2. Connect an Ethernet cable from a broadband modem or Wide Area Network (WAN) to the Internet port.Hardware Installation- Step 2
  3. Connect an Ethernet cable from your computer or host system to port 1. (You can use Bluetooth on your smartphone to set up the UniFi Dream Machine.)Hardware Installation-Step 3
  4. Connect additional network devices to the other ports.

Configuration

You have two options:

  • Use Bluetooth and the UniFi SDN app on your smartphone.
  • Use a computer connected to the UniFi Dream Machine on port 1. Go to "Chrome Instructions".

UniFi SDN App

Download and install the UniFi SDN app to configure the UniFi Dream Machine.

Note: Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. You will need to set up the UniFi Dream Machine with your mobile device and be within 1.5 m (5') from where it is installed.

  1. Launch the app and tap the + icon to add a new controller.

  2. Once detected, the app will automatically connect to the UniFi Dream Machine and the LED will begin to flash blue. If more than one controller is detected, swipe through the app screens horizontally until you locate the correct UniFi Dream Machine. Then follow the on‑screen instructions.

Chrome Instructions

Use the Chrome web browser to set up your UniFi Dream Machine.

  1. Ensure that your host system is on the same Layer‑2 network as the UniFi Dream Machine.
  2. Launch the Chrome web browser and type the default IP address of your UniFi Dream Machine into the address field. Press enter (PC) or return (Mac).Configuration-Chrome Instructions-Step 1
  3. Follow the on‑screen instructions of the Setup Wizard.

After you run the UniFi Setup Wizard, a login screen will appear for the UniFi Controller management interface. Enter the Username and Password that you created in the UniFi Setup Wizard. Then click Sign in.

You can manage your network and view network statistics using the UniFi Controller management interface. For information on using the UniFi Controller software, refer to the User Guide located on our website at: www.ubnt.com/download/unifi
