Propeller
For best performance and fuel economy, engine rpm
must be kept within the maximum revolution range;
refer to the Technical Data page 112 section. If max-
imum engine rpm exceeds the maximum recom-
mended engine rpm the propeller must be replaced.
Damaged propellers must be replaced as soon as pos-
sible. If a boat must be driven with a damaged propeller
it must be done with extreme caution and only at
reduced rpm.
Removal
WARNING!
Make sure the engine can not start during work on pro-
peller(s); remove ignition key(s) and shift drive into for-
ward or reverse.
A tool for removing and reinstalling propellers is sup-
plied with the transom shield kit.
1 Switch on the ignition and move the control lever to
astern. Remove the start key from the start lock.
2 Unscrew the locknut (1) and remove the aft propel-
ler.
3 Switch on the ignition and move the control lever to
ahead. Remove the start key from the start lock.
4 Unscrew the large locknut (2) with the aid of the
special tool supplied. Remove the forward propel-
ler.
5 Wipe dry and clean the propeller shaft.
Installation
1 Grease both propeller hubs. Use Volvo Penta
grease (part # 828250).
2 Turn on the ignition and move the control lever to
ahead. Remove the start key from the start lock.
3 Slide the forward propeller onto the shaft.
4 Screw on the large locknut (2) and tighten to 50-70
Nm (37–52 lbf.ft).
5 Switch on the ignition and move the control lever to
astern. Remove the start key from the start lock.
6 Slide the aft propeller onto the shaft and secure it
with the locknut (1). Tighten to 70-80 Nm (52–59
lbf.ft).
