Principle of operation

The electronic EKT Hei-Con type temperature controller was specially designed for
applications with liquids and replaces conventional mercury contact thermometers in
the laboratory.
The microprocessor-controlled electronics provide the control functions and ensure a
high degree of linearity and measurement accuracy. The integrated FUZZY logic ensures
an optimum heating rate without overshooting the temperature.
Thanks to the remote sensor, the control unit can be positioned outside the area of high
heat development and steam formation.

Safety functions

The electronic temperature controller is equipped with the following safety functions:
Sensor short-circuit protection
Sensor break protection
Safety and control circuit to DIN 12878/Class 1 and 2
Safety switch-off if the set temperature (MAX temperature) is exceeded by 25 °C
Safety switch-off if the temperature sensor is not immersed in the liquid within a
certain time
During operation, the sensor and the measuring line are tested continuously for inter-
ruptions and short circuit. In case of an error, the heating switches off and the error is
shown on the display.

Power supply, switching the device on and off

The device is supplied with the necessary 8 – 15 V DC voltage via the five-pole connec-
tion cable of the control unit from the connected magnetic stirrer.
The device does not have its own on/off switch but instead is switched on and off at the
same time as the connected magnetic stirrer.
