Drive and brake engagement (Mechanical drive models)

The engine transmits motion to the gearbox via a V-belt
operated by the combined clutch/brake pedal: the same
pedal, pushed to its full limit, works the brake on the outside
of the gearbox.
Any problems with the clutch, forward motion and lack of
braking power can be solved by suitably adjusting the pedal's
two functions.
After removing the inspection door and finding the drive
engagement spring tightener [1], adjust as necessary until the
spring has been extended to length "A" with the pedal
released, i.e.:
These lengths can be made using either of the holes on the
lever.
Bear in mind that:
1. If this length is too great (spring tighter), this causes sudden
engagement of the drive which may raise the front wheels.
2. If this length is too short (spring slacker), the belt slips under
the load, so reducing power in forward motion.
An inspection door also provides access to the brake spring
[2] that can be adjusted by the nut [3] located at the end of the
rod.
! WARNING :

Tightening the nut which reduces the spring length increases the braking power. With the pedal fully
down and the parking brake on, the length «B» of the spring should be 52 ÷ 54 mm.

You should never go below this amount or the brake assembly will be overloaded.

Once the adjustments have been made, the parking brake must be capable of holding the Lawn-Tractor
immobile on a 30% slope (16°) with the operator in the seated position.
