6.11 Replacing the blade drive shafts

1. Remove cutting deck (see 5.7).
NOTE
: This is not strictly necessary in that with a little practice
and experience it will be possible to dismantle the shafts
without removing the deck.
2. Remove the transmission belt and the blade drive belt
(see 6.6).
3. Remove the blades (see 4.8) and the blade supports.
4. Remove the two toothed pulleys, undo the seven screws
[1] which attach the plate [2] and remove it.
5. Remove the journal bearing by unscrewing the three fixing
nuts [3].
!
WARNING :
·
The journal bearing, with the shaft and the bearings, is
available in the form of a set of spare parts.
Should you wish to replace the shaft or the bearings alone, hit
the shaft on the pulley side with a plastic mallet for removing
the shaft together with the lower bearing.
6. After removing the retaining rings [4], the dust cover [5] and
the key [6], use an extractor to remove the bearing [7]
shimmed onto the shaft. To avoid damaging the thread [8]
with the extractor centring device, protect it by positioning
a screw.
